Energy in Motion Ltd (EIM) has inaugurated an Industry 4.0-enabled electric heavy-duty commercial vehicle complex at Talegaon, Pune, bringing three critical capabilities under one roof: vehicle assembly, lithium-ion battery-pack manufacturing and an independent battery-testing laboratory.
Inaugurated recently by Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, the facility represents the first phase of EIM’s planned ₹1,000 crore investment in Maharashtra. It has an initial stated capacity of 5,000 vehicles per shift annually and is expected to create more than 2,000 direct and indirect jobs.
The complex is designed to support electric trucks, tractor-trailers and dumpers. EIM’s technology partners include BAIC Foton Motor for heavy electric vehicles, Contemporary Amperex Technology Co. Ltd (CATL) for battery technology and Shanghai Enneagon Energy Technology for robotic battery-swapping systems.
Beyond manufacturing, EIM is developing a nationwide network of megawatt-scale charging and battery-swapping hubs along major highways, ports and industrial complexes. The company says compatible vehicles will be able to swap batteries in under seven minutes, helping reduce downtime for high-utilisation freight operations.
Why It Matters:
Heavy-duty electrification depends on more than vehicle availability. By combining manufacturing, battery testing and energy infrastructure, EIM is targeting the operational barriers—particularly charging downtime and route readiness—that can determine whether electric trucks work at commercial scale.
