Volvo Group is establishing Volvo Mining, a dedicated business designed to strengthen its position in the global mining industry, with Per-Erik Lindström appointed to lead the new entity from 1 January 2027.
Currently Senior Vice President of Volvo Trucks International, Lindström will head the business as it brings together the Group’s mining-related capabilities within a single structure hosted by Volvo Construction Equipment (Volvo CE).
Volvo Mining will offer trucks, construction equipment and autonomous solutions to mining companies and their contractors. It will also manage the Group’s global mining product and service portfolio, supported by dedicated financial resources, and co-ordinate mining-related research across the organisation.
The business will initially focus on Sweden, Norway and Finland, with plans for phased expansion into additional markets.
The move reflects growing demand for integrated solutions that help mining operators improve productivity, safety and operational resilience. By combining vehicles, equipment and autonomous technology, Volvo Group aims to provide a more co-ordinated offer for an industry facing increasingly complex operational demands.
Why It Matters:
For mining operators, the strategic shift could mean easier access to integrated equipment and technology solutions from one group. For Volvo, it creates a dedicated platform to develop its mining business and deepen customer relationships in a strategically important sector.
