The sixth Tomorrow.Mobility World Congress concluded in Barcelona on 5 November, bringing together more than 5,000 attendees, 228 exhibitors and over 240 speakers to examine the technologies and strategies shaping urban mobility.

Co-organised by Fira de Barcelona and EIT Urban Mobility, the three-day event focused on turning mobility innovation into practical solutions for cities. Discussions centred on Mobility as a Service (MaaS), multimodal transport, curbside and parking management, and the integration of autonomous vehicles into urban environments.

A key contribution was a study presented by EIT Urban Mobility, ChargeUp Europe and the European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association (ACEA), conducted by Siemens. Modelling 64 urban centres across 30 countries, it estimates that adapting electricity distribution networks to accommodate a battery-electric vehicle fleet projected to grow 3.8 times on average by 2030 will require €24.7 billion in grid reinforcement.

Smart management of EV charging could reduce this investment requirement by €10.6 billion, or 43%, highlighting the importance of intelligent charging alongside infrastructure expansion.

The congress also featured the Mobility Playground, showcasing 30 emerging solutions from mobility startups.

The seventh edition will return to Fira de Barcelona from 2–4 November 2027.

Why It Matters

The transition to sustainable urban mobility depends on more than deploying electric vehicles. Grid capacity, intelligent charging, connected transport services and effective urban planning must advance together to make cleaner mobility scalable and reliable.
